FRANKLIN – High School standouts Paige Morris of Brentwood High and Wyatt Elder of Page were selected as John Maher Builders Scholar-Athletes for the 2025-26 school year.

The Spring Hill-based builders are in their 20th year partnering with the Williamson Herald to highlight local standouts in their respective sports, in the classroom and in their communities. In addition to the recognition, Morris and Elder are eligible for scholarships that will be presented to two females and two males selected as scholar-athletes of the year at the annual John Maher Builders Scholar-Athlete banquet in May.

The Maher family has given thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school standouts since 2005 and upped their total to $10,000 over four scholarships in 2023.

Paige Morris, Brentwood High School

From the classroom to the soccer pitch and basketball court, Paige Morris’ time at Brentwood has been loaded with memories. The senior, who boasts a 4.51 GPA, is also invested in her community working with Elijah’s Walk of Love, Brentwood Young Life, volunteering at Second Harvest as well as at Brentwood as a freshmen orientation leader and graduation supporter.

John Wilkins, the girls’ basketball coach at Brentwood, has witnessed the dedication on and off the court firsthand.

“Paige demonstrates a consistent commitment to academic achievement while balancing the demands of multiple varsity sports,” said Wilkins, who has coached the Bruins for two seasons. “As a four-year starter on the varsity basketball team and a three-year varsity soccer player, she has established herself as one of the top competitors in the state.”

As a freshman, Morris quickly emerged as a playmaker for the Bruins on the hardwood. She hit 47 3-pointers and averaged 6.5 points helping the Bruins win a region title and play for a state tournament berth.

Fast forward to her senior season where Morris established records.

She exploded for a program-record 41 points on a memorable night in February. Morris buried a state record 10 consecutive 3-pointers in the win finishing 11-for-17 from beyond the arc and eclipsed 1,000 points as the Bruins concluded the regular season.

“It was a special night,” Wilkins said.

Morris, who is committed to play at Rhodes College this fall, went on to be named to the All-District 11-4A team once again.

Brentwood fell in the Region 6-4A quarterfinals this season. The girls won the Bruins’ first district title last year – the program’s first since 2011.

Wilkins praised his senior leader’s abilities on the basketball court but noted how her leadership is even more impressive.

“Paige is a natural leader who invests in others – serving in roles such as Freshman Orientation Leader and Young Life Senior Leader, while actively volunteering through her church and local community initiatives,” he said. “Her work ethic, humility and leadership make her a role model for younger students and a true representation of what it means to be a scholar-athlete.”

Paige is the daughter of Lisa and John Morris of Brentwood.

Wyatt Elder, Page High School

Wyatt Elder has thrived in the classroom, on the wrestling mats and as a Boy Scout during his time at Page. The senior maintains a 4.70 GPA, is a two-time state tournament qualifier in wrestling and became an Eagle Scout as part of local Troop 16 this year – the highest honor in scouting.

Page wrestling coach Benji Gray called Elder the perfect example for younger wrestlers in his program.

“Wyatt Elder has become one of the cornerstones for the Page wrestling program through his abilities in the classroom, on the mat and in the leadership role given to him as a junior and senior,” Gray said.

Elder won the Section 3-AA and Region 6-AA championships in February. He scored a 17-4 major decision over Green Hill’s Arvin Otoukesh to win the sectional. His 20-5 technical fall victory over Centennial’s Owen Duck clinched the regional title.

The veteran 190-pound wrestler fell in the blood rounds at the state tournament in back-to-back seasons to narrowly miss the podium in his two trips to the state’s biggest stage. He was third in both the section and region last season.

Elder finished with more than 60 wins in his senior campaign, including a runner-up showing at the Ray Dalton Invitational in December.

In early February, Elder helped lead the Page boys to the Class AA Dual State Wrestling Championships for the first time in the larger classification. The Patriots battled to the third-place match before falling to rival Nolensville and finishing fourth in the state. It was just the third time in program history the Page wrestling team earned a top four finish in the state.

“The historic season Page just experienced this past year is in part because of Wyatt and the shared vision he created amongst his teammates,” Gray said. “We cannot thank him enough.”

The senior’s dedication in wrestling transformed him into one of the best at 190 pounds, Gray said.

“Over the last four years, I have seen him grow tremendously as a wrestler,” Gray said. “He has spent time during the offseason training with local clubs and has spent even more time training with the Page High staff.”

Wyatt is the son of Kimberly and Heath Elder of College Grove.
